JOHOR BARU: A total of 15,139 affordable housing units have been built in Johor since 2013 until July this year.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said they comprised 5,806 units under Package A, priced at RM42,000 each; 3,440 Package B units; priced at RM80,000 each as well as 5,893 Johor affordable housing scheme (RMMJ) units.
“We are building another 48,000 units of affordable homes to reach our target of 60,000 so the people of Johor who applied can expect to get housing offers in the next two to three years,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters on Saturday after handing over offer letters to the purchasers of 630 units of affordable homes in Bandar Tiram that were completed in three years.
He said in gearing towards their target, there would be 16,512 units under Package A, 12,781 units under Package B and 19,107 units would be RMMJ.
“It is important to highlight that because there are those who come to Johor and make all sorts of claims that we are not doing anything, that our houses are expensive.
“Do try comparing our affordable housing efforts to that of Selangor’s, where according to records, have only completed 932 units,” he said.
Mohamed Khaled said the state government wanted to make sure that Pakatan Harapan’s dreams of making Johor an opposition stronghold state remain a dream.
He said the opposition only knew how to make fantastic promises to the people, which was different from the concrete efforts that were being carried out by the state government.
“I have the responsibility to provide affordable housing, to ensure economic growth, for people to remain employed and get a good income.
“Anyone can just come here and sell hopes and dreams; even I can do that but I have my responsibilities that I need to carry out,” he added.
