AYER HITAM: The Johor Affordable Homes programme will be expanded to rural areas to allow everyone a chance to own their own home.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who announced this yesterday, said beginning this year those living in rural areas can apply to buy houses under the programme.
“Affordable homes were initially built within Johor Baru and its surrounding areas due to the high demand in that part of the state.
“However, the state government is expanding the initiative to other parts of the state so that those in rural areas can also have access to affordable homes,” Mohamed Khaled told reporters after launching a new hall at SJKC Yong Peng 2.
During the launch, he also announced that affordable homes would be built on about 13.35ha of state-owned land in Yong Peng.
