BUTTERWORTH: State Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo has clarified that only 131 acres (53ha) will be reclaimed along the Gurney Drive foreshore by a developer for the state.
However, he said an extra 60 acres (24ha) of a 760-acre (307ha) island to be created offshore under the Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase Two project would also be given to the state, bringing the total to 191 acres (77ha).
He said Eastern & Oriental Bhd subsidiary, Tanjung Pinang Deve-lopment Sdn Bhd, would surrender the 191 acres to the state.
Jagdeep told reporters yesterday that the island would be reclaimed in three phases. Phase 2a will cover 253 acres (102ha) while Phases 2b and 2c will cover 507 acres (205ha).
Penang Gerakan treasurer Ng Fook On had said the state revealed last year that 131 acres would be reclaimed but an exco member later said 191 acres would be reclaimed instead.
