MISCOMMUNICATION between Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has left USJ 18 residents wondering when the promised fence will be built to separate their neighbourhood from the Wawasan LRT station that is due to begin operations soon.
USJ 18 Residents Association (RA) chairman Zaharom Nain said residents had asked for the fence in the hope that it would shore up security for them.
He said Prasarana had verbally agreed to build the fence once MPSJ instructed them to do so.
However, the local council said it had issued three letters to Prasarana last year.
“Our residential area has a 1.2m-high chain-link fence but it is not adequate and has been vandalised in the past.
“We are concerned about people entering the neighbourhood and parking along our streets and in front of our houses,” he added.
USJ 18 RA vice-chairman C.C. Lee said the fence, to be put up by Prasarana, would be 1.8m in height and more sturdy than the current one.
In a media statement, Prasarana reiterated that it would not instal the fencing until it received a clear and written instruction from MPSJ to do so.
“While we appreciate the anxiety and concern of residents, we have not received any official instruction from MPSJ for us to build the fence across the public park near USJ 18/3 and USJ 18/4.
“It would be a waste of public funds if we put up the fence only to be told to remove it because it was considered an illegal structure,” said a Prasarana spokesman.
On providing park-and-ride facilities, the spokesman said Prasarana was in talks with the master developer of USJ Subang Jaya and looked forward to meeting commuters’ needs in the near future.
MPSJ corporate communications officer Azli Muhammad Azli Mizwan did not wish to comment, saying that he would need to further investigate the matter and Prasarana’s claim that it had not received the approval.
Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han said Prasarana should have built a park-and-ride facility for the LRT station in USJ 18.
He said this after a site visit to USJ 16 to check on road resurfacing works there.
He also reminded residents not to pay the roadworks contractors as the cost was borne by MPSJ.
“In other areas, there have been cases where contractors approached residents to resurface their driveways for a fee.
“In USJ 16, the roads and driveway area will be tarred concurrently. Residents do not need to pay the contractors,” he said.
