SELAYANG Municipal Council (MPS) raided two dumpsites in Taman Raintree, Batu Caves, demolishing structures, including a home-made one using plywood and zinc, yesterday.
During the four-hour raid, MPS demolished four structures with a backhoe.
The raid, which started at 10am, was headed by MPS deputy president Juhari Ahmad and about 80 MPS staff as well as Gombak Land Office enforcement team and Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) officers were involved in the operation on the 7.3ha land owned by RAC.
Juhari said this dumpsite had been operating for years and it was also an illegal scrap yard for vehicles.
“We had issued numerous warning to the operators but they refused to stop operations.
“We were told that there were many drug addicts who use this building as a hideout. This must be investigated by the police,” he said.
He added that MPS had worked with RAC to shut down the illegal dumping activities there.
“We are looking to rent this land for other purposes.
“I applaud our enforcement team including the MPS health department for their efforts.
“We found mosquito larvae in stagnant water here,” he said.
Routine checks, he added, would be done to monitor the area.
“Last month, we seized two garbage lorries that entered the dumpsite and it is now in our MPS yard in Rawang,’’ he said.

MPS councillor Viskineswara Batumalay, 41, said he was very happy that the structures were demolished.
“Five months into my new term as councillor, I managed to solve this issue with help from Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari.
“This illegal dumping area has been an issue here for the last six years and residents staying in apartments and houses nearby could not bear the stench from the dumpsite.
“They said they were unable to open their windows because of the bad smell,” he added.
For now, he said, the people can be rest assured that there will be no more illegal dumping activities here.
