THE i-City Shah Alam auxiliary police team will be trained to help the sick and injured while doing their duty of protecting people and property.
“We realise that security issues can also come with health problems. So, we have a few programmes.
“The auxiliary police will learn to deal with minor injuries, falls, fractures, electrocution, choking, even heart attacks.
“We will also be considering special arrangements such as having an ambulance on standby,” said Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Klang Chapter chairman Tan Sri Lau Ban Tin.
Lau, who will chair discussions on training plans with i-City, emphasised on the importance of prompt attention in times of medical emergencies.
Lau said help should ideally come from frontline personnel as they were the nearest to victims.
“For example, if a patient has gone into cardiac arrest, it is not advisable to do nothing until the ambulance arrives.
“In heavy traffic, help may not come until 20 minutes later.

Henry Butcher Retail managing director Tan Hai Hsin, said the added skill would in the long run enhance the 30ha ultrapolis’ reputation as a safe place to work, rest and play.
As visitors’ numbers continue to rise, so will the corresponding responsibilities of the property’s management to maintain safety and order.
“In every property there must be a standard operating procedure. This is so that in times of emergency, everyone knows what to do,” said Tan.
At present, the i-City Auxiliary police station is headed by its acting chief Auxiliary Police Force (APF) corporal Mohd Fazlee Daud, 25.
The former military man was on assignment at the auxiliary police contingent in Genting Highlands before taking up his post at i-City. Corporal Fazlee heads a team of 21, majority of whom were selected from local uniformed bodies.
The team, comprising Malaysians, have restricted licence to carry firearms in the form of semi-automatic pistols.
Under the Police Act 1967, the auxiliary police has the right to make arrests, conduct investigations and detain suspects.
Constable Murnizah Muhamad said first aid knowledge would come in handy for APF members.
“I am looking forward to attending the training sessions.
“Most of the members already have some basic knowledge of first aid but this extra knowledge will add to our skill set,” she said.
The i-City Auxiliary Police Station is located between Old Town White Coffee and KK Supermart at Block J, Persiaran Multimedia, i-City, Shah Alam, Selangor.
