HEAVY vehicles parked along Jalan Desa Utama in Taman Desamas and Jalan Desa Ria in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, are posing danger to other motorists and residents.
They have also damaged the residential roads, residents said.
Bandar Country Homes Residents Association chairman Soong Beng Khoon said the heavy vehicles were parked by the roadside despite the existence of signboards and trees to deter the drivers of these vehicles from parking there.
“I have noticed lorries, trailers and even buses parked along Jalan Desa Utama and Jalan Desa Ria.
“It has become a routine for these drivers to park here for the past six months.
“Heavy vehicles should not be parking in residential areas but at their own depot instead.
“They are also damaging our roads and the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has to constantly repair it.
“A signboard, placed by MPS, warning heavy vehicles not to park here was also damaged,” he said, calling for MPS and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to take stern action against the drivers.
Madhu Marimuthu, 52, a resident of Bandar Country Homes since 1997, said the money spent on road repairs could be put to better use.
“Instead of constantly repairing the roads, the money could be used to install more streetlights in the area.
“The lorries parked on the roadside are also blocking the view of road users, making it unsafe for them,’’ said Madhu, who is also the Pusat Bandar Country Homes MIC chairman.
Jalan Desa 12 Residents Association (PPJD12) secretary Khoo Soo Kee said a motorist had knocked into the back portion of a parked trailer three months ago.
“This has been happening in other areas in Bandar Country Homes also.
“I urge Phase 12 residents to be careful when they come out of the housing area, especially early in the morning as the area is dark,’’ he said.
Resident Gunarajah R. George said this usually happened at mixed development areas where the drivers of heavy vehicles lived.
“MPS has planted trees and placed signboards but it has not stopped these drivers from parking there and damaging road shoulders, drains, kerbs and roads in the process.
“I hope SPAD will take the matter seriously and take action against the companies that own the heavy vehicles,” said Gunarajah.
MPS Corporate Department deputy director Ahmad Fauzi Ishak said enforcement officers would be sent to the area to check on the matter and issue summonses if necessary.
