GEORGE TOWN: Traffic heading towards the Penang bridge was almost at a standstill with bumper to bumper traffic for about four kilometres on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.
A downpour in several parts on the island at around 4pm Wednesday caused the gridlock with drivers heading towards the bridge and Bayan Lepas caught in the snarl for almost one and a half hours.
However, the downpour did not cause any flash floods unlike the one which created havoc on the island on Sept 15.
There were sporadic incidents of tree branches falling on the road in Bayan Lepas and Balik Pulau which was promptly cleared by the Fire and Rescue Services Department and Penang Island City Council.
No one was hurt in both incidents.
