COMMUNITIES in Ipoh and Johor did their part in respecting Mother Nature by participating in the inaugural Race For A Better Planet 2016 organised by Sunway Property, in partnership with EcoKnights and Malaysian Environmental NGOs at Sunway City Ipoh and Sunway Iskandar recently.

The race held to mark the globally celebrated World Environment Day, was in line with the initiatives of the United Nations Environment Programme which aims to create global awareness in protecting Mother Nature.

Race For A Better Planet campaign is committed to raising public awareness on sustainability and the importance of respecting nature in everyday life.

“It is important to realise that green education is, in fact, the first step to cultivate an environmentally responsible community, and this is what we want to instil across all our developments,” said Sunway Berhad property development division (Malaysia and Singapore) managing director Sarena Cheah during the celebration.

The Discovery Race at Tambun in Sunway City Ipoh attracted over 200 people who participated in the 5km family-friendly treasure hunt race, in which they were required to complete environment-related puzzles and tasks as a team.

Other fun-filled activities and workshops on environmental topics such as eco-enzyme and seedball-making were held to encourage the community to practise sustainable living.

The community of Johor took part in a 20km cycling adventure with the Ride With Nature event, which welcomed more than 400 people in Sunway Iskandar.

Tree-planting and fish-releasing activities were also included in the list of activities held there.

Sunway Iskandar chief executive officer Gerard Soosay was pleased with the turnout for the events and activities held.

“We are pleased to witness these purposeful efforts by many of our communities in taking positive actions to care for Mother Nature.”

Experiencing the outdoor fish-releasing activity with her children at the lake, Nicole Ang said she had a great time exploring the township in a unique way through bikes.

“We would like to commend the Sunway team for organising such a smooth and meaningful event,” she said.
