THE Perak Housing and Property Board was set up with the sole intention of helping Perakians own homes rather than to compete with housing developers, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said.
“The board is here to make sure that the policies of the National Housing Department are in place so as to achieve the government’s target of providing the people with affordable homes,” he said.
Dr Zambry added that for this year, the board hopes to create at least 1,200 new homes in the state.
“Whether they will be terraced houses or apartments depends on the suitability of each particular location, but for sure, they will be offered to the people at a competitive and affordable price,” he told reporters last Friday after performing the groundbreaking ceremony for Elemen@18 property development under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) scheme in Pengkalan, Ipoh.

Earlier, State Secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan said 288 apartment units and 72 units of single-storey terraced houses will be made available to civil servants under the joint-venture project between State Secretary Incorporated (SSI), PPA1M and Utusan Variasi Sdn Bhd.
“Priced at RM176,000 for a 92.9sq m (1,000sq ft) house and RM139,000 for a 78.9sq m apartment with the 116sq m terraced houses priced between RM220,000 and RM433,000, PPA1M is subsidising an average of RM38,000 per unit.
“In total, the government is giving out RM13.915mil in subsidies for the entire project,” said Abdul Puhat.

The RM74mil project on a 20.3ha site, he added, is expected to be completed by next year.
