EQUIPPING yourself with basic investment fundamentals and market trend knowledge is the first step towards making sound investment decisions for the future.

However, learning about investment does not always have to be a serious and boring affair.

If you are interested in improving your financial literacy, here’s one way you can learn about the advantages of investing wisely and get the latest in investment trends.

At Fiesta Labur PNB, you can do all that in a fun and interactive way.

The infotainment-based investment carnival is hosted by Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), and aims to promote financial literacy among the public through enjoyable and casual engagement activities.

To be held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre, the fun-filled event will be happening from Sept 28 to Oct 1.

“Through the four-day carnival, we want to educate the public on basic investment concepts and principles, especially the ‘Power of Compounding’ and ‘Rule of 72’.

“We have chosen to do this in a relaxed and fun environment so that people can easily remember the tips and realise that investment is not that complicated after all,” said ASNB chief executive officer and executive director Mohammad Hussin.

Among the highlights are the Santai Labur and Labur Ria programmes.

Visitors can look forward to the Santai Labur sharing sessions by popular personalities such as entrepreneurs Datuk Seri Vida and Datuk Aliff Syukri on Sept 30 as well as model/actress Dynas Mokhtar and financial consultant Suzardi Maulan on Oct 1.

The Labur Ria programme will feature entertainment celebrities Ziana Zain and Wany Hasrita on Sept 29 while Aiman Tino, Herman Tino and Elly Mazlein will be there on Sept 30.

Those who are interested in ASB financing and investment planning for gold, property and estate can join the “Master Your Personal Finance” workshop on Sept 29 with real estate guru Ahyat Ishak as one of the speakers.

Visitors can also pick up tips and tricks to whip up a healthy meal within an affordable budget as well as achieve effortless-looking make-up through cooking and make-up demonstration sessions on Sept 29 and 30.

“The event doesn’t just serve to educate the parents, but also the younger generation on financial awareness,” said Mohammad.

Children will be taught the benefits of savings, importance of investing and ways to improve financial literacy through the interactive Kem Perancangan Kewangan PNB workshop on Oct 1.

Parents can enrol their children in this workshop by messaging Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd through its Facebook page. The workshop is open to children aged between seven and 12 years old, registration is free.

This year’s Fiesta Labur PNB is also the culmination of all of PNB’s financial literacy programmes that have been organised throughout the year in all states across the country.

The first day of the event will see the finals of national-level Kuiz Pelaburan PNB for two categories: uniform bodies and secondary schools, while the teacher training institutes (IPG) and Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) categories will be on Sept 30.

The national-level Persembahan Seni Kreatif will have eight schools competing in a financial-related stage performance on Oct 1 while there will be a total of 104 schools participating in the PNB Smart Investment Club training starting Sept 28.

Meanwhile, there will also be 50 retail and exhibition booths set up by ASNB agents and uniformed bodies featuring blood donation stations, health-check services, career consultation as well as small-to-medium business owners offering various products from clothing to food and beauty items.

“Visitors are encouraged to update personal information and register for the myASNB portal at the event,” said Mohammad, adding that the event is expected to attract about 15,000 visitors and around 6,000 new account holders.

Additionally, visitors will stand a chance to win attractive prizes such as ASNB unit trusts, electrical items and gadgets worth RM150,000.

The second edition of Fiesta Labur PNB is open to public from 9am to 9pm on Sept 28 to Sept 30, and from 9am to 1pm on Oct 1. Admission is free.
