BANDAR Baru Sentul Perdana’s community square became a one-stop centre for residents in the area to build closer neighbourly ties.
The annual 1Malaysia Community (K1M) Information Programme at the Phase 3 Flats community centre recently was set up to educate residents in the area about the various government agencies.
It brought together government agencies including the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, the National Anti-Drug Agency, the Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry, and the Welfare Department.
Batu Umno division chief Datuk Yahaya Mat Ghani said the priority was for housing facilities.
“I feel it will be a good opportunity for citizens to own residences, especially for the younger generations.
“So far we’ve already provided five People’s Housing Project (PPR) low-cost flats, and have identified new residential housing areas for RumahWip affordable housing projects,” he said.
During the programme, Bandar Baru Sentul Phase 3 flats Residents’ Association chairman Jaafar Jalal, 64, shared his grouses over the lack of maintenance of the flats’ 690 units.
“The flats were built 28 years ago by Kuala Lumpur City Hall and now we are having problems with the water pumps that need to be fixed.
“Though we are paying our assessment, land and maintenance taxes, the maintenance is still not being done at a satisfactory standard,” he said.
The festive activities began at 7.30am with a colouring competition for children, cooking and towel arrangement contests as well as fun teh tarik and karaoke competitions. The event ended with a prize-giving ceremony and lucky draws after a buffet lunch for the visitors.
In addition to the festivities, residents also had a free eye check-up.
