MOTORISTS driving along Persiaran Kinrara in Puchong have been doing so in the dark for almost two months now.

It is believed that 24 streetlights along the 1km stretch stopped functioning after a downpour.

Trader Calvin Leong, 22, uses Persiaran Kinrara daily to travel to a morning market in the area to sell his goods.

“I drive along this road at 5am every day and turn on my high-beam lights to see clearly” he said.

Taxi driver and Taman Kinrara Section 3 resident Joseph Velly, 53, said there were accidents at the road shoulder at night.

“There are two junctions along this road, one that leads to a petrol station and the other to Jalan Kinrara Section 3 where the Vista Lavender apartment is located.

“Along the road, cars and buses would be parked illegally and it is dangerous for motorists at night, especially since it is so dark.

“There have been accidents whereby motorists knocked into stationary vehicles,” he said.

Residents Representative Committee Zone 14 chairman Lawrence Chiew said Persiaran Kinrara was one of the busiest roads as it connected Puchong with the Kesas Highway and Taman Sri Sentosa, off Jalan Kelang Lama.

“Many vehicles are parked along the road shoulder during the day and it gets worse at night.

“As the streetlights are not working, this puts road users at risk. It is difficult for them to spot vehicles on the side of the road,” he said.

Chiew said he would file a complaint with Subang Jaya municipal councillor Mehanathan Emba-murthi.
