THE extended LRT lines in Kelana Jaya and Ampang are set to begin operating on Thursday, as planned.
Kumpulan Prasarana (M) Bhd president and chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said the RM8bil project had been completed according to schedule and was all set to operate.
Some 300,000 commuters, he said, would be able to benefit from the service of the trains plying along the two lines.
“There has been much more development along the lines since it was first planned in 2009 and thus have increased the density of population along the routes.
“These developments will create more economic activity and we expect the economic impact of the projects to increase by 20% than projected earlier,” he said.
Aziz, who led the media on a ride on the LRT from the Kelana Jaya extension line’s final station at Putra Heights, said all the stations would be supported by feeder bus services.
He said this was done with the aim to provide connectivity for the commuters.
“We will also build cycling lanes and a pedestrian path so that commuters can access the stations on foot and bicycle.
“A total of 2,200 parking bays will be available on both the lines,” he said.
On Sunday, Prasarana Rail and Infrastructure Projects Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Zohari Sulaiman said it had received support letters from various agencies for its stations under the Kelana Jaya line, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
“The One Stop Centre of MPSJ has accepted, checked and acknowledged the submission, including the certificate of completion and compliance (CCC) issued by the architects.
“For the remaining three Ampang line stations, we have also received support letters from various agencies, including MPSJ, Syabas, TNB, IWK and the Fire and Rescue Services Department,” he said.
“Once the documents are submitted and acknowledged, the submission process is considered complete,” he said, adding that operations would proceed as scheduled.
