PETALING JAYA: Themed “Real Estate Trends: 2018 & Beyond”, the 27th National Real Estate Convention (NREC) 2018 highlighted the upcoming perspective changes of real estate developments, providing the participants with the latest trend of real estate and the outlook for 2018 and beyond.
NREC 2018 was organised by the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) on March 8 (Thursday).
The distinguished presenters spoke on new areas of experience ranging from the economic performance, real estate transaction data to logistics, e-commerce, blockchain and disruptive change in real estate:
- Economic Outlook for 2018 and Beyond by Prof Yeah Kim Leng, Director of Economic Studies Program at Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia (JCI) at Sunway University
- Accommodating Real Estate with Valuable and Reliable Data by Sr Nordin Daharom, Director General of Valuation and Property Services Department
- The Industrial Market in Malaysia - Is Logistic the New Big Thing by Siva Shanker, Head of Investment Axis Reit Managers Bhd
- How Retail Evolve in View of E-Commerce Trend by Datuk Seri Vincent Tiew, Vice President of Aladdin Group
- Future of Real Estate Investment and Blockchain by Tan Kok Keong, CEO and Founder of FundPlace Pte Ltd
- Real Estate Metamorphosis: To Disrupt or Be Disrupted by Sulaiman Akhmady Mohd Saheh, Director of Research, Rahim & Co International Sdn Bhd
- Knowing Your Intangible Asset by Datuk Sr Lau Wai Seang, President of RISM
On top of the seven presentations by the distinguished speakers, a forum moderated by Sr Adzman Shah was also held, discussing the latest statement by REHDA stating “Insufficient data behind supply-demand housing mismatch”.
The panellist included Siva Shanker, Sulaiman Akhmady, Dato’ Sr Lau Wai Seang, and Sr Choy Yue Kwong.
The event was officiated by Sr Nordin Daharom and it has attracted more than 200 participants.

“The real estate industry is ever changing and evolving to suit the demand and supply conditions in the market. The changes in the economic activities have also impacted on the property market.
“As a result of some positive activities, the e-commerce or online business have triggered demand for industrial premises.
“With the challenging times ahead, it is important for us to look into new trends and areas of opportunity such as new business models, digital transformation related to disruptive technology, blockchain and data analytics and new valuation work such as valuation of intangible assets and business valuation.
