Factory owners and residents claim that land-clearing activities in Taman Alam Impian (behind the factory) have caused the flood in neighbouring Jalan Dato M. Sellathevan in Section 36, Shah Alam.

SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) will be taking firm action against the developer who cleared the land in Taman Alam Impian that led to a flood.

On Nov 28, StarMetro reported that several factories in Section 36, Shah Alam were flooded several times.

MBSA engineering department director Cheremi Tarman said the council had issued warnings and fined the errant developer.

“The mayor and I will be visiting the site to see if the developer has begun rectification work.

“This is not the first time we have given warnings to this developer. Last year, we issued a RM25,000 compound to them,” he said.

Cheremi added that the developer would be fined under the Roads, Drainage and Buildings (Act 133) 1974.

On the matter of the “Jom Serah Haiwan” campaign, Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said the council had been falsely accused of euthanising the animals that were sent to them.

“Any NGO that wants clarification about the dogs and cats that are sent to us through the programme should contact our environmental health department.

“It is false to say that we kill the dogs that are sent in. There is no single solution to resolve the stray dogs problem, that is one of the reasons this programme was set up and it has been lauded by Petaling Veterinary Department,” he said.

So far, MBSA environmental health director Norhisham Mohammad said 224 cats and six dogs had been sent in through the programme.
