MALACCA: Hatten Cares, a welfare wing of Hatten Group is the pioneer organisation to mobilise Help Nepal humanitarian fund-raising drive for earthquake victims.
Hatten Cares set up a donation booth in Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall to collect funds for rebuilding efforts after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit several cities in Nepal in April 2015.
The Help Nepal campaign launched on May 6 ended on June 14 saw shoppers donating generously to help in the recovery efforts and to temporary relief the suffering of survivors.
Bottled water was distributed to those who donated more than RM10 and a giant display board was set up where donors could pen their messages of support and hope to the Nepalese.
At the end of the month-long initiative, RM20,788.70 was collected from generous members of the public and the sum was matched by the Hatten Group Management which brought the amount to a whopping total of RM41,577.40.
“We are sincerely touched by the generosity of our shoppers and their willingness to donate for the benefit of fellow human beings in need.
“Together, we are united in one common goal to help the survivors of the Nepal Earthquake rebuild their lives from the ruins,” said group managing director of Hatten Group, Colin Tan.
The cheque was issued to World Vision and handed over to marketing executive of World Vision, Ngeow Siew Mei by the Hatten Cares team.
Ngeow said she was impressed by the quick response of the Hatten Cares team in generating public support for the Nepal relief efforts.
“The sum collected will be used to purchase blankets, bedding, clean water and sanitation for the World Vision relief shelters in Nepal,” she said.
