A MISSING fence beside a monsoon drain at the junction between Jalan Helang and Jalan Belabas in Kepong Baru, Kuala Lumpur, is posing a threat to children in this area as well as motorists.
Resident Annie Chin, 52, pointed out that the section of the drain which is unprotected was located at the corner of a street.
“It is dangerous at night when visibility is low especially for those who are unfamiliar with the roads here,” she said at a press conference which was attended by Kepong Gerakan parliamentary coordinator Ong Siang Liang.
Ong said it was no small matter and could cause tragedies in the residential area.
“The monsoon drain is near several neighbourhoods and a kindergarten, which can be dangerous for the children in the area.
Ong raised the issue with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), who then cordoned off the drain with red and white tape.
DBKL assistant engineer Faizal Azmin Mohd Adnan said after an inspection, DBKL suspected that the missing fence was either related to vandalism, theft or accident and new fence would be installed soon.
“The work is expected to start next week.
“So far, no accident has happened,” he added.
Also present were Beberek Kepong Baru chairman Yee Hock Lai, Taman Petaling secretary Vicky Vigineswaran and Taman Kepong Baru Section B chairman Liow Fatt Chuan.
