RESIDENTS of Bandar Puteri Puchong are fed up with frequent water disruptions over the past few months.
The situation became worse when Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) shut down the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant because of water contamination.
This affected more than 2,500 households mainly in Bandar Puteri Puchong 6, 8, 9, 11 and Sri Cempaka Apartment.
“We always get the same answer from Syabas, that the water pressure is very low and cannot fill up the main water tank that serves this area,” Koh Kean Sim, from Bandar Puteri Puchong 11, said in a press conference to highlight the issue.
“This is really upsetting because no action has been taken to solve the issue.
“Although the water tanker is sent to each housing area every week, it is not sufficient.”
Koh said residents really want to know the root of the problem, what action had been taken and when the issue would be resolved.
Datuk Samson David Maman, who lives in Bandar Puteri Puchong 8, said people in Bandar Puteri had been going through constant water shortage.
“It affects businesses and hospitals as well.
“There is nothing much we can do with one or two buckets of water.
“Furthermore, after every disruption, the water that is pumped out is brown, muddy and dirty.
“So, even when there is supply, it is not clean drinking water,” he said.
Siew Wai Hoong who lives in Jalan 11/17, said he had lodged an online complaint on Oct 3.
“Every evening, the pressure will go down until there is no water out of the taps.
“Supply will only resume the next morning.
“My wife has to wake up at 4am to wash clothes and sometimes we have to go to a relative or friend’s house in another area just to bathe,” he said.
Bandar Puteri Puchong 11 Residents Association chairman Alice Choo said even though the scheduled water cut due to maintenance work by Tenaga Nasional Bhd was set to start on Dec 19, Bandar Puteri Puchong had no water supply since Dec 17.
