A FACTORY supervisor thought he would finally own a RM600,000 condominium unit with a panoramic view of Penang Bridge, but after spending RM15,000 and even signing the purchase agreement, the seller disappeared.
R. Ganesan, 42, said he found the property through a licensed property agent and the 45-year-old seller was purportedly a director of the company said to own the condo unit.
But after paying the RM6,000 down payment and signing the agreement, he said the man became untraceable and the process of transferring the ownership of the condominium ended.
“I called all his contact numbers but no one answered. I sent him text messages but he did not reply.
“I went to the man’s hometown in Ipoh but also to no avail.”
He said he made a police report on June 6 but the man was still at large.
Unsure of what to do, Ganesan went to Penang MCA for help.
Penang MCA Public Services and Complaints bureau deputy chief Tan Eng Hin said Ganesan had spent about RM15,000, which included the RM6,000 downpayment, legal fees and agent charges.
“We have also tried to find the man. I called him but he did not pick up,” he told a press conference at the party headquarters.
Penang MCA Legal bureau chief Francis Goh said the issue could be a cheating case.
“If anyone else has encountered such a problem, please contact us so we can compile the information and hand it over to the police,” he said.
