SJK(T) Rawang board of governors’ decision to build a hall on the school field is being questioned.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman A.S. Vinayagshanmuga Lingam claimed that about 30% of the field would be taken up by the hall.
He said he only found out that a tender had been offered for the construction of the hall on July 22.
“At first I was told it would be a single-storey hall with a budget of RM1mil but later, it became a two-storey hall with a budget of RM1.6mil.
SJK(T) Rawang board of governors chairman Datuk R. Krishnamoorthy said he had met with parents, PTA, NGOs and the school’s headmaster at the Maha Mariamman Temple in Kampung Muhibbah, Rawang to explain the matter.
He said the one-storey hall would be built on land measuring 13,000sq ft with an allocation of RM1.6mil from the Selangor Education Department.
“When I was the school’s PTA chairman in 2015, I discovered that SJK(T) Rawang had not been gazetted as a school since 1947.
“On May 23 this year, we managed to get the land which the school sits on legalised by paying a premium of RM2,436 to the Gombak Land Office.
“Parents should not worry about heavy vehicles entering the school field as zinc hoarding will be placed at the construction site and heavy vehicles will park outside the school.
“The hall will be managed by the school and it will be able to generate income as we can rent it out for weddings, dinners and other activities,” he said.
Selayang MIC deputy chairman Datuk Seri A. Balakrishnan, who was a PTA member of the school, said it is the board’s responsibility to oversee the school’s physical development.
