Annual Industry Forum focuses on Big Data to optimise Construction Sector productivity
PETALING JAYA: The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) hosted the Statistics, Indices in Construction & Automation Forum 2017 (SICA Forum 2017) themed “Capitalising Big Data, Optimising Productivity”.
The event was held to enable the construction industry players to discuss and gain more profound insights on the potential of “Big Data” analytics in transforming the Malaysian construction industry into becoming more productive.
The Minister of Works Datuk Seri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof delivered the keynote address at SICA Forum 2017, which is the third instalment of the annual forum since its introduction by CIDB in 2015.
The Forum also aimed to provide a platform for members of the construction industry to share experiences and best practices on how big data analysis can lead to better construction management decisions and strategies.
“Through the optimised use of big data, our efforts are in line with the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP), which forms a part of Malaysia’s national agenda to transform the construction industry into one that is modern, highly productive and sustainable by 2020,” said CIDB Malaysia chief executive Datuk Ir. Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid during the SICA Forum 2017.
According to the statement, the use of big data analytics in the construction industry supports the productivity strategic thrust of the CITP which seeks to double the productivity levels of the construction industry more than.
Under this strategic thrust, the lack of data and information-driven decision-making was identified as one of the critical areas for change in the industry.
