StarProperty.my Awards 2019 is venturing into new horizon this year with the introduction of The Creative Touch Awards for city hotels and resorts. Running for the fourth year, StarProperty.my has been honouring property developers across the nation for their contribution in nation building.
The new category aims to honour city hotels and resorts with unique and captivating design in planning, and construction. New hotels and resorts opened since 2015 and with a rating of 4 stars and above will be eligible to participate in the awards to be held in March this year.
With two different categories for city hotels and resorts, the award is aimed to highlight the combination of science and art in the interiors of the development.
According to Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) vice president Leong Ta Wah, “Interior design, in general, is for human beings. Human factors such as ergonomics, optimal lighting level, the height of fittings, indoor air quality, colour psychology, and material content are all related to science and are needed to enhance the interior design of the hotels and resorts”.
“The most critical element when it comes to the interior design of hotels and resorts are practicality, comfort level and maximised operation. It is important to get the right formula between the hardware (space design) and software (personal touch on the management of the hotel),” he added.
The Creative Touch Awards is a collaboration between StarProperty.my and MIID to commemorate excellent interior spaces especially in the hotel industry in Malaysia.
“One of the aims of this award is to recognize the efforts undertaken by the interior design team and uncover the ID secrets in attracting and enticing the guests to come and keep coming back to the property,” commented StarProperty.my assistant general manager Ernest Bernard Towle.
The award also aims to celebrate interior designers behind the exceptional interior designs in the hospitality industry besides promoting Malaysian interior design to the international level.
“Hotels and resorts in Malaysia often insert Malaysian local element into the interior design to localise the space. This makes the hotels and resorts truly Malaysian,” said Leong while commenting on the international standing of the Malaysian hospitality industry.
Ernest opines, “Working with a professional body like MIID is a fantastic start because it will provide a very credible judging panel with a huge ability to provide solid comments and qualified critique. This experience will be a stepping stone as we hope to go on a bigger scale and cover even more players in this segment next year”.
