BUSINESS owners and tenants in Sunway Metro, in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, have been given a month to clean up their back lanes under a rejuvenation programme.
Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said they would have to rectify illegal structures, install grease traps and fix leaking air conditioners, among others, in the back lanes of Jalan PJS 11/28A and PJS 11/28B.
Those who fail to comply by June 2 will face enforcement action, he said.
“One month is sufficient time for owners and tenants to clean up the back lanes.
“The most important aspect is the leaking air conditioner vents, because over time, the water droplets damage the road and stain the walls.
“Restaurant owners also have to install grease traps and stop dumping their food waste into the main drainage system.
“Once they have done their part, only then can the roads be resurfaced and the walls repainted.
“If they do not comply, we will take enforcement action according to the bylaws,” Nor Hisham said during a briefing for the programme at The One Academy gallery in Bandar Sunway.
MPSJ can take action under the MPSJ by-laws 2007, Local Government Act 1976 and Street Drainage and Building Act 1974.
Nor Hisham added that the rejuvenation programme was the first to be held in the PJS area and mirrored a similar initiative successfully implemented in the back lanes of Jalan Kenari in Puchong.
Also present was Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh who urged owners of premises to be responsible for their back lanes.
The programme was initiated by Zone 2 MPSJ councillor Wan Hock Leong and will receive corporate sponsorship from Sunway Group for road resurfacing and The One Academy in the form of murals.
Wan said the rejuvenation programme was scheduled to be completed in July.
