IKAN Emas morning market traders have to face flash floods each time it rains.
Bandar Tun Razak Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Chew Yin Keen said they asked Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to construct additional drains to allow rainwater to flow easily and not cause floods.
“I suggested this plan to DBKL many years ago but no action was taken.
“Stagnant drain water is an ideal place for mosquitoes to breed,” he said in a press conference at the Pasar Pagi Ikan Emas.
Trader Seow Chen Foo said when the water overflowed the drains, water in the market grounds would rise, preventing customers from going to shop.
“I hope the authorities can fix this problem as soon as possible because this is affecting our business,” he said.
He suggested that DBKL build bigger and deeper drains to contain the rainwater.
