VANDALS are at it again.
A group has burned the wooden bridge in Jalan Kampung Kebun Baru in Batu 5, Kapar for the second time.
Batu 4 Village Security and Welfare Committee (JKKK) chairman Mohd Samsidi Sudri said the bridge, which was partially burnt last Tuesday night, was used by residents in Kampung Kebun Baru and Taman Kelana to get to the main road.
There are 50 households in Kampung Kebun Baru and 48 in Taman Kelana.
“The bridge was burned by vandals last year. Before it was repaired, a motorcyclist who was on his way to the mosque fell while he was crossing the damaged bridge.
“There is an alternative road but it is also in bad condition,” said Mohd Samsidi.
JKKK secretary Azmi Abdul Wahab said during downpours, the river water would rise above the bridge, causing the wooden bridge to become damaged over the years.
JKKK member Murthy Subramaniam said the police promised to patrol the area after a report on the incident was lodged.
“The JKKK will also patrol the area to prevent this incident from recurring,” said Murthy.
Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi, who visited the site, said the act of vandalism had inconvenienced villagers and wasted funds.
Also present at the site were representatives from the Drainage and Irrigation Department, Public Works Department (JKR) and the Klang district office.
“The district office will allocate RM20,000 to repair the bridge but the cost is estimated at RM70,000 and we will request JKR to give their support,” she said.
At the press conference, it was observed that motorists could still drive on the bridge, but they had to drive slowly and only one could cross at a time.
