WORK on the Lover’s Bridge land reclamation project in Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat is expected to be completed in August.

New Village Development and Legalising of Factories Committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah told StarMetro that the project was initially planned to be done in January but work was delayed because of protests from two restaurants at the site.

He said the state allocated RM3.19mil for the project to be carried out by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).

“The structure for Lover’s Bridge is done and the next step is to build the retaining bund for the shoreline. Later, the area will be equipped with a carpark, stalls and roads.

“It will be revived as a tourist attraction as how it was before the bridge collapsed,” he said.

The bridge collapsed on June 25, 2013 and in early 2015, the Selangor government allocated funds to reconstruct it. Work began in October the same year.

He said this after a meeting with representatives from the State Economic Planning Unit (Upen), Kuala Langat District Council and Land Office, DID, Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and Tanjung Sepat new village at the state secretariat on Monday.

The meeting was held to discuss the project’s progress and upcoming steps to beautify and redevelop the area.

On the two restaurant operators, whose premises were demolished last week, requesting for a temporary site from the state government to continue running their business, Ean Yong said they were allocated a temporary site before the demolition.

“If they are still interested in a new site, they can apply with the council,” he said.
