JOHOR BARU: Residents from traditional villages, located within Kempas, will be given a helping hand to get land titles from the state government.
Pulai MP Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said he would ensure that temporary occupancy licences (TOL) holders were given titles to the land they lived on.
“The villages in Kempas are among the few remaining traditional villages within the Pulai constituency and is part of Iskandar Malaysia,” he said at a press conference after attending an event in Kampung Permatang.
Nur Jazlan, who is also the Deputy Home Minister said he would forward villagers’ applications for land titles to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin when he visits Kempas in April.
Nur Jazlan said Kempas, located nearby well-planned housing estates and commercial precincts including the Home Ministry complex in Setia Tropika, had transformed over the years.
“Plans are in the pipeline to develop the KTM Kempas Baru station into an integrated transportation hub, in the southern region, similar to Kuala Lumpur Sentral,” he said.
Nur Jazlan said Kempas would gain from the economic spill as a result of the project which would benefit residents.
The Kempas Baru station is located on a 101.17ha site.
It was earlier reported that the state government wants the KTM Kempas Baru station to be one of two stations in Iskandar Malaysia, where the high-speed rail linking Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, will stop.
There are 10 traditional villages in Kempas - one in Kampung Lorong Aman, two in Kampung Lembah Murni, three in Kampung Jalan Mesjid and four in Kampung Permatang.
The 145 families have lived in these villages since 1973 on TOL land.
They were directed to pay taxes from 1989 after the land status was converted to state-owned.
