LEMBAH Damai and Gua Damai extreme parks in Batu Caves will be combined and known as Gua Damai Extreme Park, Selangor Youth, Culture and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Amirudin Shari said.
He wanted the park to be the hub for extreme sports in Selangor, as it was only 20 minutes away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre.
“It is a site with huge potential. The only concern is not having accommodation in the area, aside from transportation.
“We are planning to include cabins here for people to stay, by next year,” he said.
“They can indulge in activities like hiking, camping, abseiling and climbing,” said Amirudin participated in a Gua Damai Exploration day trip that was organised by Selayang Municipal Council.
More than 100 people including councillors, department directors, staff and VIPs including press members explored three caves in the area.
Amirudin and MPS president Suliman Abd Rahman explored the caves and also tried out abseiling and rock climbing.
“Many people know of caves in Sarawak and other states but in Selangor, this is a natural wonder that even locals should not miss out the opportunity to discover what we have.
“Since we have these limestone caves in Batu Caves, we should encourage tourists to explore them,” Suliman said
On his experience at the park, he said it was an exciting four hours with the group.
“It was a bit challenging but suitable for beginners.
“I feel more signboards, railings and proper platforms and staircase should be placed here,” said Suliman.
He said MPS would arrange to place signboards at the entrance of the caves in Lembah Damai and Gua Damai Extreme Park to inform the public on the cave names, the depths and other useful information.
“We will place railings inside the caves instead of wooden ladders to ensure public safety.
