JOHOR BARU: All districts in the state will see the development of homes under the Johor Affordable Homes Scheme (RMMJ), said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said while demand was higher in Iskandar Malaysia due to the higher population in south Johor, there was also demand for such houses in other parts of Johor.
“We are giving equal attention to other districts as well and the number of units will be built accordingly in the respective districts,” said Mohamed Khaled.
He said this after attending the balloting and handing over of house keys to those eligible for RMMJ houses in Setia Business Park II here.
Also present at the event were state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jais Sarday, SP Setia chairman Tan Sri Wan Mohd Zahid Wan Noordin and chief executive officer Datuk Khor Chap Jen.
“The state government is committed to deliver 60,000 units by 2020 with support from state-linked companies and developers undertaking the projects,” said Mohamed Khaled.
He said 5,490 units of houses would be delivered to eligible buyers in stages by year-end and another 14,500 units by the end of 2018.
Mohamed Khaled lauded the cooperation by developers in building the houses under RMMJ in Johor, adding that without their cooperation the government would have problems providing the units to the people.
“Delivering 60,000 units of affordable houses is not an easy task and it will take time for us to deliver them but we will do our best,’’ he added.
