PETALING JAYA: When student Xu Zi Fan heard about the Arts and Lights exhibition here, she knew that she had to persuade her family to make the drive from Johor to visit the exhibition.
The 15-year-old from Tangkak was not disappointed by what she saw and experienced at the exhibition.
“It’s so amazing, because it features things I haven’t experienced before. My favourite is the Vista Interactive Space Wall, because you can draw and scan it and your drawing will move (on screen)!” said Xu excitedly.
Xu and her family were among the many visitors to Mah Sing Group’s Arts and Lights exhibition, dubbed Malaysia’s first interactive pop-up art and technology experience.
Among these is one of Mah Sing Group group managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum’s personal favourites, featuring a darkened room filled with hanging clouds lit in different pastel colours which can serve as a perfect background for creative photographs.
Tourism Malaysia senior director (international promotion division) Datuk Musa Yusuf, who launched an iPhone X contest in conjunction with the exhibition, read out a speech by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
He said that the interactive installations were a good way to stay relevant with current trends, especially among the younger generation who were technology-savvy and always in touch with new digital trends.
Leong said the exhibition, apart from introducing the public to the group’s projects, was also meant to encourage creativity in the younger generation.
“It’s important for youths to develop a passion for the arts,” said Leong, adding that almost 12,000 people had registered for the exhibition to-date.
Also present at the launch were Mah Sing Group CEO Datuk Ho Hon Sang, executive director Datuk Steven Ng, group strategy and operations director Lionel Leong, Top Glove executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, executive director Eric Hoo Saw Ho, independent non-executive director Datuk Lim Han Boon, Tourism and Culture Ministry China and Chinese Community Affairs advisor Datuk Andy Chuah, and Klang MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau deputy chief Datuk Tan Bok Koon.
