Offline 16 participants spent 16 hours away from mobile devices.
PETALING JAYA: Over 300 participants attended Offline 16, Malaysia’s longest mental health event hosted by Tropicana Corporation Bhd (Tropicana) and Australian-owned healthcare company VitaHealth Malaysia (VitaHealth). The theme of the event was Disconnect to Reconnect and ran from 8am to midnight on Aug 17, 2024. It was held at the newly refurbished Tropicana Golf and Country Resort’s Grand Ballroom.
Hosted by Malaysian personality Emerson Sean, the event facilitated face-to-face interactions among participants without the use of mobile devices for 16 consecutive hours. All participants enjoyed a series of exciting activities such as fitness challenges, a therapy sanctuary, a stand-up comedy performance by Douglas Lim, badminton with Malaysia’s Olympian and VitaHealth ambassador Pearly Tan, a sharing session with the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) and more.
The day culminated in VitaHealth and Tropicana receiving the Most Accumulated Offline Hours in a Day Award in the Malaysia Book of Records. In line with VitaHealth and Tropicana’s ESG commitments, this first-of-its-kind event paid tribute to World Mental Health Day by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Among the 300-strong crowd were invited children aged between 13 and 17 from orphanage homes. The children from Praise Emmanuel Home and Rumah Charis enjoyed the MMHA sharing, along with various wellness activities and delectable food packs throughout the day.
“In recent years, the prevalence of mental health issues has become a global concern. Offline 16 was inspired by these insights and we are delighted with the overwhelming turnout and support from the public, media and our corporate partners. The success of this event also celebrates VitaHealth’s 77th anniversary, marking a double milestone for our company. Our ambassador Pearly Tan was also there to engage with the crowd, sharing her tips on overcoming challenges and achieving her goals,” said chief executive officer (CEO) of VitaHealth Malaysia KS Beh.
“This event brought a myriad of benefits to all who attended, offering sensory, personalised, and impactful experiences for everyone to unplug, unwind, and recharge. We are also delighted to share that Offline 16 has set a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records as the most accumulated offline hours in a day,” Beh added.
The event was also in line with Tropicana’s environmental, social and governance principles. Tropicana’s CEO Ong Chou Wen expressed his positive thoughts on the event as well.
