PUTRAJAYA: Here’s some good news for civil servants in search of affordable houses – there will be an additional 100,000 units to be made available under the civil servants housing project (PPA1M).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said when the PPA1M was launched, the initial target was to build 100,000 units of houses for civil servants nationwide.
“The response to this project is overwhelming. So, we have decided to bump up the number to 200,000 units,” he said at the launch of PPA1M Selasih in Precinct 17.
While work was still in progress to complete the first 100,000 units, the Prime Minister said the target was for the rest to be completed in 2020, with each unit being subsidised at between RM25,000 and RM38,000 depending on the size.
“We know that many people long to have a house to call their own and that is why the Government has pledged to build affordable houses not only for civil servants but also for the rest,” he added.
The Government has set a target to provide one million affordable homes for the people and the task has been delegated to some agencies such as 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), among others.
Najib said PPA1M houses would be built nationwide with the bulk of them in Putrajaya and the Klang Valley, which had a large concentration of civil servants.
In this federal administrative capital alone, more than 17,000 units of PPA1M houses will be developed in three phases, giving some 90,000 people a place to call home.
“This is a caring Government which does not forget you. We hope you will not forget the Government,” said the Prime Minister, in an obvious reference to the much talked about upcoming general election.
