SHAH ALAM: The Earthlings Project is a proud initiative by S P Setia specially aimed to encourage members of Citizen Setia to ‘go green’ in line with the group’s core value of cultivating sustainability to enrich lives and communities.

“Held over two weekends (29th & 30th July 2017 / 12th & 13th August 2017), The Earthlings Project supports many of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN) such as ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all,” said Datuk Koe Peng Kang, Executive Vice President of S P Setia Berhad.

Datuk Koe added that S P Setia has always emphasised on building communities and providing long-term relationships with its purchasers. “As with all our other community activities, The Earthlings Project cultivates bonding not only between families but also the communities of Citizen Setia on a larger scale,” he said.

“The unique interactive art installation of The Earthlings Project, which is the ‘vertical plastic-bottle garden’, is not only an eye-pleasing centrepiece but also an innovative way of growing edible plants. This goes to show that gardening can be easily done even if one is living in an apartment by simply upcycling plastic bottles that are readily available. It is a great way to go green!” added Datuk Koe enthusiastically.

The art installation was part of the activities held simultaneously last weekend at S P Setia townships in Klang Valley, Johor, Penang and Sabah. Close to 2000 members of the Citizen Setia communities came together to attend the numerous educational Re-Love Workshops which saw many perfecting the craft of building their very own toolboxes made of used wood and OSB chipboards (compressed wood flakes) as well as assembling multi-purpose hooks upcycled from discarded utensils including metal forks and spoons.

Those present were also given tips on backyard composting as well as lessons on making their own colourful terrariums (sustainable eco-system in small glass containers with actual live plants) from scratch.

Other workshops held include the basics of edible gardening reusing food tin cans that have been clean-sprayed to look new as ‘planters’ as well as using discarded PVC banners, felt and clothes to make purses, bags and carriers.

The Shoe Planter workshop, which saw many participants transforming their old footwear into cute little ‘planters’, was a hit and many Citizen Setia members were seen leaving the event with their original and distinctive masterpieces.

Mr KJ Cheah, aged 64 from Bandar Setia Alam applauded the initiative by S P Setia as it benefitted his whole family who had a fulfilling day learning new ideas for going green. “This is a good way for my children to inculcate the recycling habit as well as grow our own fresh and pesticide-free produce,” he said.

The Earthlings Project is part of the many activities held under the Citizen Setia banner, a unique platform offering bespoke lifestyle experiences to reward loyal customers and property purchasers of S P Setia.
