The column reflects the view of the writer

We, the Millennials are the boisterous lots. We do everything with such gusto. We make plans with such detail and hey! We accomplish our tasks with such bravado. Look at how we fought for the nation and our future.
But alas, we the millennials are also the impulsive lots. We share posts, retweet and repost without a second thought. We, sometimes forget to double check the facts, the source and the validity of what we are reading in social media.
Last week, I read a tweet that said “After 61 years of mess, our country is back to its feet”. The tweet had many retweets and comments. One thoughtful moment would have given the realisation that our nation has been achieving remarkable success for most of the past six decades, and some of "the mess" that caused great dissatisfaction among the people happened in the past decade or so.
Our ancestors, leaders and patriots have done a massive amount of work to build this country since Independence. From agriculture to industrial technology, Malaysia has made its mark across the globe.
We have come a long way from being a small nation under the British ruling to becoming a well-known multi-racial country capable of reaching greater heights.
Let us not forget the sacrifices of our past leaders in our disappointment with the present state. Let us not diminish the efforts of our nation builders in our rage with the current state. Let us not be blinded by the force that is social media.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate how far we have come because that will give us the strength to march forward and rebuild this country that we love so much.
StarProperty.my will be featuring a nation-building timeline to acknowledge the development of Malaysia’s infrastructure in the upcoming June Pullout in The Star paper on June 6 (Wednesday). Stay tuned and be proud of our accomplishment as a nation!
