ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor folk will have the chance to rent new homes before they buy them.
State housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Md Jais Sarday said the “Rent To Own” scheme will be launched by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin on Friday at Ekspo Johor Berkemajuan that is being held until Oct 14 at Dataran Mahkota in Kota Iskandar.
“This is good news for those who want to own property in prime areas where prices have increased, such as in Johor Baru.
“The state government is always listening to the people on many issues and this is one that we are addressing,” he said after handing out offer letters to 36 recipients of the MyHome programme.
He said the state government would buy the properties in prime development areas.
“The monthly rent is between RM260 and RM600 and tenants will lease the property for five years before buying them from the state.
“The rental will be deposited as savings and the tenant can use it as a deposit for the house, and will find it easy getting a housing loan from a bank,” he added.
Md Jais also said more than 130,000 Johoreans have registered online for the Johor Affordable Houses (RMMJ) programme.
He said as of last month, 15,139 RMMJ houses were completed and the state government was targeting another 30,000 units to be ready next year.
