IN AN effort to instil a sense of social responsibility among People’s Housing Schemes (PPR) residents, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has started a Block Leader programme.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Phesal Talib said the block leaders would help to handle social issues while the Welfare Department (JKM) had introduced a Homehelp Services to help the elderly who are underprivileged and the disabled.
Apart from that, JKM also introduced volunteers to idenfity residents who need help under its Community Programme.
“I believe the implementation of many community programmes here can open up opportunities for the residents to have a better life,” said Ahmad Phesal when launching the MyCommunity Carnival event at PPR Desa Rejang in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur.

There are about 13,000 residents residing in PPR Desa Rejang.
Ahmad Phesal added that DBKL had started to build wet markets, parking bays and stalls for traders to improve the quality of life in low-cost housing areas.
The event is co-organised by three government agencies – JKM, DBKL and the National Safety Council.
Various activities were lined up for the residents during the one-day carnival including a colouring contest for children, sports games, and music performances.
