THEY say that a leader is one who “knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” With Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap’s stellar history of paving the way for success wherever he goes, there is indeed no better person to lead the way for Sunsuria Bhd than their ever-passionate Executive Chairman.
Born into a family of teachers, Ter has always shown an uncanny talent in his endeavours. After being part of the student council where he learned leadership and graduating with honours from the University of Malaya with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ter ventured into an impressive professional journey.
Prominent in Ter’s storied career is his lifelong association with the chambers of commerce which dates back to 1997. It was then that he first joined his hometown's Klang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCCI). Four years later, he was elected president.
By 2003, Ter was vice-president of the national-level Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM).
Today, he serves as president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), ACCCIM, as well as the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor (KLSCCCI).
Creating Tomorrow with Sunsuria City
Furthering his passion in starting businesses, Ter delved into property development in Sunsuria Bhd. Here, Ter's years of experience and excellence culminated in what is now Sunsuria's flagship township, Sunsuria City.
A mixed development grounded on the principles of “Smart, Livable, Sustainable,” this township sets itself apart as it embodies the Malaysia of tomorrow. And with a man as tenacious and passionate as Ter at the helm, Sunsuria City is an inspiring glimpse into the future of Malaysia – a place where you have everything you need within reach.
Nestled on a sprawling 525-acre space that contains everyday necessities, Sunsuria City is an impressive master plan brought to life. Designed to be an international lifestyle destination, it is indeed an impressive effort.
Today, Sunsuria maintains to be a force in the industry as it is unceasing in delivering quality projects including residential, commercial, industrial and recreational developments.
Sunsuria has won the Neighbourhood Honours Award in the StarProperty.my Awards 2017.
Beyond business
Beyond achieving industry success, Ter also firmly believes that companies have an essential role in giving back to society.
Charity is in Ter's DNA, as evident in the numerous initiatives organised by the chambers of commerce and Sunsuria such as relief efforts during the devastating East Coast floods in 2014. Ter has established groups at ACCCIM that address culture, social welfare, education and other issues that affect the public.
The good he does in society also extends to the education sector. Besides being on the board some schools, Ter has been vital in finding new grounds for Chinese education.
In 2013, Ter made history when he completed an agreement with Xiamen University to set up a campus in Malaysia. It was the first time a university from China established a campus outside China.
