JOHOR BARU: The second phase of the Pasir Gudang Highway upgrading project is ahead of schedule as it is 39% completed compared to the targeted 36%.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that Phase 2A involving an allocation of RM164mil is slated to be completed by Sept 6 next year.
“I am satisfied with the progress made so far in the second phase to widen the Pasir Gudang Highway from three lanes to six.
“Although we faced some setbacks in the first phase, we are confident that this time the upgrading works can be completed on time,” he told reporters after attending a briefing here on April 6.
“Currently, the works involve a 7.7km stretch from the Plentong to Seri Alam-Taman Rinting exit,” Mohamed Khaled said, adding he hoped road users would be patient.
Separately, Mohamed Khaled said the authorities would also be looking into resolving flood issues near Kampung Baru Cina Plentong here.
He added that Johor Baru City Council and Johor Baru Central Municipal Council along with the Drainage and Irrigation Department have discussed the matter.
“The authorities would also conduct an in-depth study to identify the best solutions,” he said, adding that the rundown Sungai Plentong bridge would also be replaced.
Mohamed Khaled added that the project involving some RM22mil would be built in three phases and would be completed by next year.
“The project will also see the development of a six-lane road to ease traffic congestion in the area near Seri Alam here.
“We are also planning to launch 686 townhouse units under the Johor Affordable Homes scheme on a 5ha plot of land near Kampung Desa Makmur here,” he added.
