Previously, the retention pond at the park was under DID’s jurisdiction while the playground area fell under the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
The entire maintenance of the area was handed over to DID early this year.
Residents said nothing had been done for the past six months and the place had become derelict with overgrown vegetation and faulty playground equipment.
A check by StarMetro showed that the grass was uncut and a badminton court sported vegetation growing out of the cracks on its surface.
Even the playground set had stagnant water on the slides and the rubber floor mat was entirely covered by grass.
Abdul Razak Mamat, 51, said the park had become unsafe for public use.
“Snakes are a real concern here as the long weeds make perfect hiding spots. The ground is also uneven making it dangerous for children to run around.
“This place can be turned into a beautiful recreation area once it is spruced up,” he said, claiming that they had not had many problems when it was handled by MPAJ previously.
Taman Bukit Mulia Residents Association chairman Amin Osman said the recreational park needed proper maintenance.
“There are many residents who use this place to exercise and get together. It would be nice to have that back again,” he said.
Amin said the last upgrading exercise was done more than two years ago when the jogging track was cemented.
MPAJ councillor Ahmad Sabri Abdul Bakar said the council had appointed a contractor to clean up the place after numerous complaints.
“As three cases of dengue were reported in Taman Bukit Mulia, MPAJ decided to clear the park.
“For the next stage, MPAJ will pressure DID to deepen the pond as the water floods the playground area when there is a downpour,” he said.
