PAHANG: OSK Property, OSK Construction and OSK Foundation, in partnership with the Persatuan Orang Asli Semenanjung Malaysia (POASM), constructed a home for Samid A/L Puteh and his family through OSK’s Good Cause Initiative.
Located in Kampung Paya Mendoi, Kuala Krau, Pahang Darul Makmur, Samid A/L Puteh lost his home in the 2014 flood which decimated the Orang Asli village. He, alongside fellow villagers, built a makeshift wooden house, which he and the family lived in for nearly a decade before POASM selected him as the recipient of a home from OSK Group under the initiative.
"I am very grateful for this new home. Now, my family and I will be staying in a more comfortable and conducive environment, especially for the upbringing of my four children," Samid said.
The entire process of planning, design, and materials took about half a year, however, the construction spanned three weeks. The building utilised a team of 39 volunteers and workers, translating to approximately 1,578 man hours.
On 15 October 2023, OSK Group deputy managing director Ong Ju Xing, OSK Property chief executive officer Ong Ghee Bin and OSK Property chief operating officer Lim Sow Wu presented the set of keys for the new home to Samid.
“The meaning behind The Good Cause initiative goes beyond just a corporate social responsibility programme; it bears testament to our commitment to contribute and be part of a brighter future together with the community,” Ong said.
"The Good Cause project is our way of saying thank you for the trust and support given by our stakeholders. It is also our way to strengthen the bond we have with our communities, and it is about improving lives. To us, a house is more than just a shelter; it is a foundation that provides stability and safety to one's family," he added.
