OPENED at the end of 2016, Laman PKNS boasts a 2,853sq m rooftop garden on top of Block D. It has three viewing decks with shelters, as well as oval seating planters on levels 5 to 7.
The landscape design of the rooftop garden is inspired by Selangor’s diverse cultures, heritage and natural elements.
One example is how the aerial roots of mangrove trees are a source of inspiration, influencing the design of landscape components such as the shape of the pathway, the flowing paving pattern and the flow of the water features.
The oval shape planters and shelters are an abstraction of the leaves and seeds of the mangrove tree.
It ramps up from the lakeside then doubles back up towards the lake again, allowing people to walk from the lake garden on the ground floor to the roof garden without losing the “walk in the garden” experience.
Due to its high elevation, the viewing decks give one a panoramic view of the Shah Alam Lake Garden and the surrounding areas.
Garden inventory
There are about 15 species of trees and 27 species of shrubs in the garden.
Of note
The roof with a gradient of 8%, is disabled-friendly. An interactive shallow stream flows across the roof and between the gardens, following the gradient of the roof structure and creating a calming ambience.
