The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has postponed the construction of a proposed 30m-high telecommunications tower along SS18/6.
MPSJ president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan made the decision after a meeting with relevant departments on Tuesday.
Nor Hisham said the order to postpone applied to all 18 towers proposed in Subang Jaya.
“Although the telecommunications company received their temporary occupation license (TOL), we need to discuss this in detail and find a win-win solution for all,” he said during a press conference at MPSJ headquarters.
He added that the decision on each tower would be made on a case-by-case basis as not all towers are near residential areas.
The telecommunications company had approvals from the land office and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and needed a building permit from the council to begin work.
Yesterday, about 50 residents gathered at the field along Jalan SS18/4 in Subang Jaya to protest the proposed construction of a 30m-high telecommunications tower on a walkway along the open field.
Residents were upset as they were only informed of a dialogue session with contractors and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council’s planning department at the very last minute.
Nor Hisham added that a meeting with councillors and residents representatives would be called to discuss the matter.
He also suggested that the meeting include the Malaysian Nuclear Agency to educate residents about radiation.
