MELAKA: A total of 1,163 units of residential and commercial properties, some that were completed a decade ago are yet to be sold, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
He said the unsold properties were worth RM420.94mil, and comprise 725 housing units and 438 commercial units.
“The figures were provided by the Valuation and Property Services Department in their 2017 second quarter report,” he said after opening the state Housing and Special Bumiputra property expo in Ayer Keroh here recently.
The event was also attended by state housing, urban wellbeing and local government committee chairman Datuk Wira Ismail Othman.
A total of 22 housing developers took part in the expo.
Idris said the situation of unsold units could have stemmed from the state government’s focus on constructing affordable homes to help the middle-class population.
However, he said the state’s housing policy did not prevent the development of high-end properties.
“Developers should look into the demand for higher end properties in the state before venturing into such projects to avoid being left with unsold units,” he added.
