KUALA LUMPUR, 2nd March 2017: KL Gateway Mall, the only shopping centre with a direct LRT link outside the city business district area opened its doors to the public on 2nd March 2017.
Its unbeatable location, fronting the Federal Highway right where Kuala Lumpur meets Petaling Jaya and Bangsar, as well as its link to the KL Gateway – Universiti LRT station via a 100 meter covered bridge makes it a surefire striking new landmark in Kuala Lumpur.
A modern, urbanite mall, KL Gateway Mall will serve a captive catchment population of 400,000 within five kilometers of its premises.
This captive audience comprises Klang Valley’s most affluent neighbourhoods including Bangsar South, Damansara Heights and Seputeh. For those who drive, it is easily accessible via Sprint Highway, Kerinchi Link and New Pantai Expressway (NPE).
The mall also serves another 350,000 shoppers that commute using the LRT on a monthly basis. The 100-meter link bridge between the LRT station and the mall is not only covered, it will also be secure and air-conditioned to shade shoppers from the elements.
“The digital economy continues to change the way we work and commute. We expect KL Gateway Mall to be one of the favourite hotspots for millennials and forecast a footfall of more than 10 million a year with an estimated 40 percent being LRT commuters,” said Michael Chee, Head of Asset Management at Suez Domain Sdn Bhd, the developer and management behind KL Gateway Mall.
There are a total of seven retail floors with each floor reflecting design elements and motives inspired by street mall concepts from different continents around the world.
This starts with North America on Lower Ground level, Europe on Ground level, Asia on Upper Ground level, South America on First level, North Africa on Second level and Australia on the Third level.
The centerpiece of KL Gateway Mall is its iconic Central Piazza. A large diamond-inspired canopy made of ETFE, the same material used at the famous Water Cube swimming arena for the Beijing Olympics covers the Central Piazza, bringing natural daylight into a one-of-a-kind indoor space that is a perfect interactive space for the community.
“The Central Piazza also boasts a 10,000 square feet multi-level outdoor garden called The Park. As a whole, it is an ideal place to bring the community together.
Events such as art performances, fashion runways, car shows and many other types of activities and exhibitions can take place all year long without worrying about our tropical weather,” said Michael.
With more than 300,000 square feet of retail space, shoppers can browse over 200 retail outlets at the mall once fully occupied. Its retail mix covers the categories of fashion, dining, home, services, electronics, office, edutainment and many more.
Brands that will be making their debut in Malaysia at KL Gateway Mall are The TWEE, He’s Dawan and Tovista. The TWEE is a Korean fashion brand while He’s Dawan and Tovista are local brands in food and beverage.
Other names that can be seen at KL Gateway Mall are Village Grocer Supermarket, Tedboy Express, Yamazaki Bakery, H&M, Samsung, Daiso, Fenix Restaurant, Al-Ikhsan, Mr DIY, Reka Zone Playland, Cotton On and Times Bookstore.
An automated carpark, Malaysia’s very first and the largest in Southeast Asia at 1,238 bays is undergoing its final stages of completion and will soon be opened. Meanwhile, visitors can park their cars at the 900 normal parking bays available.
Tenancy is at 80 percent with brands opening progressively and full occupancy expected by the third quarter of 2017.
“There is innovation, design and value behind every element of KL Gateway Mall. We are positioned to remain relevant because we want to serve as a community centre. That means becoming an ideal meeting space for the new needs of entrepreneurs, commuters and shoppers. Our plans are always for the long-term,” added Michael.
KL Gateway Mall is part of the award-winning project KL Gateway under Suez Domain Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Suez Capital Sdn Bhd. The mall will also serve the larger KL Gateway community consisting of four towers of residential units and two Grade-A corporate office towers. These will be delivered in stages throughout 2017.
