JOHOR BARU: After opening a hotel in the heart of Kuala Lumpur last year, property developer Capital Trend Asia Sdn Bhd has launched a brand new four-star hotel in Taman Perling here to cater to the state’s tourism demand.
Its managing director John Lim said that its Amerin Hotel took three years to build, with some RM60mil invested into the 17-floor hotel on a 0.40ha land.
“Being a Johorean from Pontian, I have always wanted to venture here and we are already looking for a suitable land for our next project,” said Lim after the hotel’s official launch by state Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism executive committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.
“Although we are a new player in the hospitality industry, we are hoping to achieve at least 70% occupancy rate in our first year of operations since opening in June this year,” he said, adding that their Kuala Lumpur hotel has an occupancy rate of 80%.
Lim added that the 176-room hotel has eight types of rooms and five suites with four themes namely love, fantasy, cityscape and Madagascar to suit the visitor’s taste.
He said that with the easy accessibility of highways and roads, the location was prime for those who want to visit theme parks in Iskandar Putri as well as those who are looking for an urban experience in the Johor Baru city centre.
“We target a mixed crowd of Malaysians and Singaporeans, comprising mostly families,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tee said the hotel helps give Taman Perling a facelift and also provides job opportunities in related sectors and sub-sectors such as logistics, taxi services and retail.
He added that based on Tourism Malaysia’s hotel survey, Johor recorded the highest increase in tourist arrivals in the country last year at 8.20%, which was 6.95 million visitors from 6.42 million in 2014.
