The long-awaited multi-level parking facility in Brickfields offering over 300 bays, has finally been completed.
Kompleks TPK Brickfields is located in Jalan Tun Sambanthan 6, behind the Pos Malaysia branch and next to the Tamil Methodist Church.
The project, which cost about RM24mil, was first announced by the then Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin in 2010.
Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan confirmed the building is ready.
“As far as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is concerned, the development order and building plans have been complied with.
“But there has been concerns expressed about the sewerage line, which was brought to our attention after the project was completed.
“Once that is sorted out, the CCC (certificate of compliance) will be issued,” said Dr Loga Bala.
Kompleks TPK will have 327 parking bays including six for the disabled, a community hall, 50 motorcycle bays, three badminton courts, office and a surau.
Dr Loga Bala said DBKL will call for a tender to invite interested parties to manage the place.
“We are looking at professional companies but other parties have expressed interest too,” he said.
It is learnt that a nearby school’s Parent-Teacher Association and a residents group have expressed interest in running the place.
Brickfields Rukun Tetangga chairman SKK Naidu said that when Raja Nong Chik announced the project, the residents had asked for a multi-purpose hall.
“He obliged. Now that it is ready, who better to manage the place than the residents themselves?
“Those who live here will take more interest in running the place,” he said, adding that it was the norm for sports complexes and private buildings to be run by associations and non-governmental organisations.
Residents hope the multi-level car park will help reduce parking problems in Brickfields.
The lack of parking has worsened congestion in the township as cars are parked haphazardly along the roads.
