KULAI: Inaction over the prolonged and recurring mudflow over the past four years in Taman Muhibah here is frustrating residents.
Auxiliary policeman S. Vikneswaran, 27, who moved to the area six years ago, said only one lane of the road into the housing estate could be used as the other lane was filled with mud and grass.
“The mudflow has caused a lot of damage to about 150m of Jalan Jambu 33.
“It also poses a danger to motorists, especially those riding motorcycles.
“Since the situation got worse, I was forced to take an alternative road to get out of the area which is quite far for me,” he said when met at Jalan Jambu 33 here.
Vikneswaran claimed that the mud comes from a privately-owned oil palm estate nearby.
He said that when it rains, the area would be flooded with mud, rubbish and grass and the road becomes very slippery and dangerous.
Technician Chong Chee Boon, 39, said mud also clogged the nearby drains.
“When there is heavy rain, the mud also enters several houses.
“We are also worried the area will become a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes,” he added.
Chong said he had lodged a complaint with the Kulai Municipal Council but nothing had been done.
When contacted, a spokesman confirmed the complaint had been received and they would take the necessary action once investigations by the respective departments are completed.
