OWNERS of heavy vehicles who parked in residential areas have been issued with summonses in a joint operation by Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Land Transport Commission (SPAD).
Over 20 summonses were issued by eight enforcement officers from SPAD and 20 from MPSJ who checked on such illegal parking in Subang Mas and Pinggiran USJ following public complaints.
SPAD issued summonses under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 while MPSJ issued summonses to those guilty of parking a vehicle over two tonnes in a residential area without a written approval from the council under the MPSJ Park Bylaw 7(1) 2005.
MPSJ Corporate Communications officer Muhammad Azli Miswan said the council had limited authority against the wrongdoers, hence the involvement of SPAD was important.
“We do not have the vehicles to tow those heavy vehicles but SPAD does.
“We found that many of the drivers parked near where they lived instead of at the spot registered with SPAD.
“Their reason being that they finish work late at night and there was no public transportation from the depot to their homes.
“The onus is on the drivers to find a way home, not park their heavy vehicles in a residential area, which not only obstructs the road, but also poses a safety risk,” he said.
