KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s sole national body representing the interior design profession, the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), is pleased to announce the MIID REKA Awards 2015, the premier interior design awards created to further enhance and elevate the standards of interior design, by acknowledging and honouring excellence in the profession.
This year marks the second successful year of collaboration between MIID and Nippon Paint (M) Sdn Bhd for the Awards. With Nippon Paint’s presence as one of MIID’s corporate partners (infinite category) and also co-branding partner, the awards is now renamed as the MIID Nippon Paint REKA Awards.
The MIID Nippon Paint REKA Awards 2015 is conferred to MIID Professional Members who are practicing interior design and are registered with the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM), as well as MIID Student Members from interior design schools in Malaysia. Submission is open for works completed between 1 January 2012 and 30 June 2015 that best exemplifies the quality and pursuit of excellence in interior design.
MIID Nippon Paint REKA Awards categories that were introduced in 2014 are Green Interior Awards (for projects with interior solutions promoting sustainability) and Adaptive Reuse Awards (reuse of existing spaces for a purpose, other than which it originally was built for), have proved to be highly instrumental in reflecting the trends and needs of the current Interior Design industry in Malaysia.
“Adaptive Reuse category will be a true test that reveals the creative skill of interior designer,” says Dato’ Tajuddin Ismail, one of the judges in 2014.
The Jury panel of 2014 unanimously agreed to expect more interesting submissions this year and in the coming years for this category. In addition to this, MIID Nippon Paint Special Awards for Colour of Interiors has proved to encourage innovative applications.
“We are both happy and privileged to once again collaborate with MIID to launch the most anticipated awards in the industry. Nippon Paint continues to actively work with industry partners and various other stakeholders in pushing the boundaries of innovations and creativity, as we see limitless value and vast potentials in such collaborations. The interior design professionals remain as one of our most important stakeholder, as they are the core in which the inspiration of colours, spaces and ambiences are derived upon. They are the trend setters, the industry movers and the creators of the future living, working and social spaces, which directly impacts on human behaviours and community interactions,” says Nippon Paint Malaysia Group general manager Gladys Goh.
This year, the panel of judges will consists of renowned personalities from the interior design industry. “All the three judges are experienced professionals in their field of design and their in-depth knowledge will be valuable in their assessment for all the entry categories. The winners will be judged based on creativity (design concept, space planning and space utilisation) and build-ability (in the creative use of materials and sustainability / environmental consideration),” says MIID Nippon Paint REKA Awards organising chairman and council member Lim Pay Chye.
The award is open for submissions from 2 July to 4 September 2015. Successful submissions will be announced and honoured at the MIID Annual Ball and Awards Night 2015, which will be held on October 2015.
